Approval of board minutes from March 25th, 2008 1st Robert 2nd Dino

  1. Spot Prawn Festival – Saturday 3rd May 2008
    • Karri is sending the recipe booklet off to the printers.  The booklet has 16 recipes featuring the spot prawn dishes that will be offered on the Fisherman’s wharf May 3rd.  There are 50 booklets to sell for $5.00.
    • Tiffany has arranged for a health permit.  Chefs at demo tables are reminded to practice food safe and should have a copy of their certificates on hand May 3rd.   Tiffany will bring antibacterial lotion.
    • Robert Clark is coordinating with Steve to get the demo prawns to the chefs.  Each chef will prepare 100 samples to sell to the public for a total of 1600 samples.  Tickets will cost $1.00 each, $5.00 for 6 and $10 for 12.
    • The boat will arrive earlier this year so public will be able to purchase prawns sooner.  The boat will bring in about 1000 lbs this year and prawns will be bagged as the boat returns so the sales will go more smoothly this year.

    • Appearing on Breakfast Television Friday, May 2nd
    • Posted on Urban Diner.
    • Contacted Vancouver Sun, Province, West Ender and CFUN Food and Wine show.
    • Handed flyers out at the Vancouver Magazine awards and at the EPIC show.
    • Remaining flyers will go out to restaurants.
    • Shaw TV will film live from the Festival on May 3rd.
    • Granville Island is cross promoting and Edible BC has flyers.
    • Vikram has purchased insurance for the day.
    • Still need water for the public, will contact Green Table for cup source.  Will approach Wa 2 as a sponsor.
    • Don suggests we try to secure sponsors on an annual basis to cover events throughout the year.
    • Robert suggests that we purchase plates and glasses for next year and sell to the public to reuse instead of using paper or plastic.
    • Ethical Bean and Edible BC have made donations for a raffle draw.  The draw will include a signed copy of Vancouver Cooks.
    • Mike from Oceanwise is setting up a children’s activity area.
    • Jamie Maw has offered to Emcee.  Vikram will pick up the sound system and set up on the morning of May 3rd.  The system will also play music during the event.
    • Julian will arrange for lunch for volunteers from PICA and NWCA.  Volunteers need to have information sheets ahead of the event.
    • Rentals will arrive at 8am; Tiffany will be at the dock to receive.
    • Student volunteers will need to arrive by 11am.
  2. New Business
    The board voted and passed a motion to sponsor $2000 for two Bocuse D’Or students to travel to Montreal from BC.  Scott will prepare a report for the board.

  • Board meetings will be held the last Monday of every month.  Meetings will not be held in July, August or December.
