- Financial Report
Neil unable to attend. Financials still pending, accountant back in April, all info will be updated at that time;
Info provided by Nessa: balance over 51k – 5k to be removed to cover expenses of Curry Cup.
- Membership Committee
Kyle and Chris to organize another meeting at PICA;
Nessa and Céline to move on providing updated event calendar (Céline to provide cc of old calendar) and membership drive;
Vancouver Cooks 2: sell out remaining inventory at events – copies to be signed by as many participating chefs as possible (Nessa and Céline to handle) – Scott will provide hard cover books, Céline to pick-up;
Dish n Dazzle Thursday May 1 – draw from students volunteers; Céline to confirm if can attend on behalf of CTS;
Signing up at Spot Prawns: To be reviewed opportunity might be while people are waiting in line. Manual form to be filled out and then entries will be done into the system. 2 emails to be asked for and kept on file.

- Marketing & Branding
- Kyle and Jonathan unable to attend, info provided by Nessa: Curry Cup update: $9893.00 sales at door $658.00 = $10511.00 cost under $5000 profit around $5300. Curry Cup debrief needs to planned and next year event date considered.
- Update by Katharine on CTS participating in a Vancouver Film Festival event – “Spinning Plates” screening on Monday April 28 as discussed with John Burns from Vancouver Magazine – celebrating 25th anniversary of restaurants awards.. Looking for sponsorship from CTS for food and chefs to be present to answer questions after the viewing. Requirements: 3 to 5 chefs with different styles.
- Health & Wellness Committee
Ned unable to attend. No report.
- Spot Prawn Festival (Ryan unable to attend, update sent via email)
DATE: May 10, 2014Ryan unable to attend, but report emailed to Board as follows:
- Wisent Environmental contacted and on board;
- Mike, wharf is on board and meeting on Thursday at 2h30 – for all to attend;
- Meeting with Neil on Wednesday pm to secure last year’s rental invoice and determine numbers (to confirm with Kyle is better supplier than A&B);
- Dwayne from Rational is looking into the possibility of having a combi at the event (Modern Boil);
- Web site update is almost updated and running (thanks Karen);
- EventBrite should be up now or close to being up and running. Details to be confirmed.
Vancouver Mag offered to be a media sponsor (May issue) one or two fixed email and on-line piece. To be included in printed mat as a media sponsor.
Exclusive web sponsor :SCOUT mag – Motion brought by Scott, seconded by Celine to consider SCOUT mag to be exclusive web sponsor. Nessa to further inquire as to limitations of exposure for other partners.
Monday May 5 Pre-festival event for member recognition to be discussed further as time is running short. All board members are asked to think about possible venues to hold pre-event and prawns provider. Breweries TBC.
PICA’s involvement: storage, production of sides, salads, volunteers (same involvement as last year’s); request was made that volunteer students be moved around to make it a learning experience; coordinating veg and menu – Darren needs contact information – Ryan to provide.
Tote bags to be ordered and sold (this year CTS logo only), but not caps and shirts – separator for tote bag to carry glasses and bottles.
Talent: 5 chefs starting at 11 am – Nessa to follow-up
Ticket price increase to $15.00, $20.00 at entrance.
- Fundraising/Scholarship Committee
No report; decision to be made on BC Hospitality sponsorship what to do next to organize specific plan – to be added to May agenda.
New Business:
- Town Hall Communications (CTS Public Relations firm): Leeann Froese – food, wine and hospitality related public relations. Leean@townhallbrands.om 604 321 3295
- John Baldwin john @ cambridgehouse.com 604 687 4151 from First Annual Hops and Hogs Festival: a festival that raises money for culinary students and offer sponsorships. Thursday November 6, 2014 from 6 pm to 9 pm at Performance Works, Granville Island. Scope: Non-profit event, culinary students compete against each other then public votes on best dish; scholarship to winner. Students will then work in restaurants booths; one restaurant will also win for best dish. Ticket price 30.00 entry ad open beer with tasting; 9k planned revenues for 300 participants.
CTS requested that all participating chefs and students be member of CTS; students
CTS suggested that 4 main schools in town be included – have money given to CTS for later disbursement (?)
CTS to review and advise after next meeting (to be added to April agenda)
