The Chefs' Table Society of BC is pleased to announce we have received funding from the Community Workforce Response Grant to support the training of 18 eligible individuals this fall at Camosun College in Victoria for the Professional Cook 1 Program.

These training spots will be offered to individuals who are facing pandemic career changes, new immigrants to Canada and people currently underemployed or in precarious employment. Classes will run at the Camosun Interurban campus in Victoria from November 6, 2023 through May 31st, 2024 (new dates) and classes are 7:30 – 2:00, Monday to Friday. Training for students, who meet the criteria, is free with support from the grant. Students will receive a knife kit, uniforms, lunch card and a bus pass along with other supports. Students need an amazing attitude, a willingness to learn and access to a computer and internet for homework.

Chefs' Table Society is looking for people ready to take training this fall to build skills and begin working in a new career they will love. Interested candidates need to be at least 16, have a social insurance number and have written and spoken English levels high enough to go to school in English. They can be immigrants within 10 years of arriving in Canada. There is an extra enthusiasm to have women and people of colour included in the cohort.

Chefs' Table Society will be an active participant in the training process, working alongside Camosun College to prepare students to be successful in their future careers in culinary. CTS will contribute to the wrap-around support that students need to build their confidence for the workforce. Industry orientation, career awareness and goal setting, headshots and social media training, resume writing tutorials, and opportunities to connect with industry leaders will all be part of the program.

This is an exciting collaboration that will help to develop much needed new talent in the industry. If you know a potential student or would be interested in interviewing successful students at the end of the training period, please reach out to Shawna Gardham ed@chefstablesociety.com

The Chefs' Table Society will receive funding for delivery of the Profession Cook 1 Program at Camosun College through the Community Workforce Response Grant program. This funding was provided by the Government of Canada through the Canada-BC Workforce Development Agreement.
