Approval of board minutes from April 21st, 2008
- Terranova Schoolyard Society Presentation
- Ian Lai of Terranova gave the board an outline of the program that is being run out of Richmond, BC.
- CTS Members can learn about the program on line at www.myterranova.ca If members are interested in volunteering for this program please contact Ian Lai at info@myterranova.ca
- Ian is proposing the CTS donate a sum of $5000 to support the program
- The board has asked Ian to prepare a written proposal outlining how the funding would be used. Board has requested a copy of a business plan as well.
- Members of the CTS are encouraged to join the Terranova society if they are interested in this program.
- Project CHEF Update
- Robert Clark attended a class room session of project chef and was very impressed with the program and with Barbara Finley’s teaching style.
- The board would like to invite Barbara back to a future board meeting to hear about future plans for the program.
- For further funding of the program the board would like to see another proposal.
- Les Clefs D’Or Donation
- Raymond from the Pan Pacific Hotel and Sheron of the Four Seasons Hotel presented CTS with a cheque for $375. The funding is generated by trade show events they hold and they would like to set up a bursary for chefs.
- Their society would like to align with chefs with concierges.
- CTS will come up with a plan on how to disperse the funding.
- Spot Prawn Update
- Tiffany is sending out thank you letters and photos to sponsors
- City Food magazine will have an article in the summer issue about the festival.
- Budget spread sheet is attached.
- TV crew cancelled the morning of the event due to poor weather.
- Spot prawns are selling very well this year. Have increased from one boat selling last year to 3 boats this year.
- Need to spread out the area so there is more room for grazing. More focus on individual chefs rather than restaurant names that chefs work at. Need more food for the public.
- Next year the CTS could apply for one health permit rather than having to obtain a permit for each chef.
- Need more funding for more tents next year.
- Will maintain ticket sales next year. Could increase the price per ticket and should limit ticket sales to 12 per person so there is enough food to go around. Plates should be handed out when tickets are purchased. Look into plastic plates with a thumb hole that could be reused.
- Limit number of recipes and have chefs collaborate on dishes together.
- Run the event from 1pm to 3pm and have the boat arrive at the start of the festival in order to sell fresh prawns right away.
- Would like to see more membership out in chef whites at the event so there is a strong chef presence.
- Financial
- $14,528.00 in cash account
- $33, 000.00 in GIC account
- New Business
